PLAQUE OF COMMENDATION AWARD
Holiday Inn Singapore Atrium and the Food, Drinks and Allied Workers Union (FDAWU) have always
enjoyed robust industrial relations.
Wage negotiation with the union has always been amicable and prompt. The hotel has paid competitive
annual wage increases in line with the National Wages Council’s recommendations, and in most cases,
bettered the industry norm.
The hotel also ensures collective agreements are signed promptly so that workers can enjoy their enhanced
benefits with minimal delay. In 2009, the hotel signed its collective agreement within one month after its
expiry, an industry first. In 2012, the hotel raised the minimum and maximum of most positions in the collective agreement. It also enhanced existing terms
and benefits, and introduced benefits such as Optical Care and Birthday Leave, which were fairly new to the industry then.
A strong advocate of workers training, the hotel has worked with the Singapore Workforce Development
Agency for the Train & Promote Scheme, identifying high potential employees for training and
development. Working with NTUC’s e2i (Employment and Employability Institute), the hotel has successfully
multi-tasked its Security and Concierge employees with increased productivity, leading to gain sharing with
the employees.
Well before the Retirement and Re-employment Act was implemented in 2012, the hotel has been proactive in the re-employment of older workers. Since
2009, a clause has been incorporated in the collective agreements whereby the hotel actively re-employs its employees beyond the age of 62.
In recognition of its positive contributions to the Labour Movement, the National Trades Union Congress is pleased to present
Holiday Inn Singapore Atrium with the Plaque of Commendation Award.
