VETERAN OF LABOUR AWARD<br />
Brother Tan Cheok Hua has been a loyal serving<br />
member of the Labour Movement since 1996 when<br />
he was first elected as Branch Secretary. He was<br />
appointed to the Executive Committee of the Building<br />
Construction And Timber Industries Employees’ Union<br />
(BATU) in 2002.<br />
An active participant of the Membership committee,<br />
Brother Cheok Hua has contributed to the strong<br />
growth of BATU membership, and its achievement of<br />
the 30,000 membership target in 2012.<br />
A strong advocate of the 3-Flow<br />
leadership initiative, Brother Cheok<br />
Hua has explained its importance to<br />
his branch committee, which led to<br />
the successful passing of the 3-Flow<br />
Model into BATU’s constitution in<br />
2011. In line with this leadership<br />
renewal, Brother Cheok Hua has also<br />
served as a mentor to his younger,<br />
less experienced union leaders.<br />
Mentor<br />
Brother Cheok Hua was one of the key players in<br />
the preparation for the Prime Minister’s visit to his<br />
company, Sembwaste Pte Ltd. As a union leader,<br />
he formed the organising committee with the<br />
management, and through many weeks of meticulous<br />
preparation, the visit was a success.<br />
At the <strong>NTUC</strong> level, Brother Cheok Hua has served<br />
as an alternate member of the Industrial Workers<br />
Education and Training Fund Committee.<br />
In recognition of his contribution to the Labour<br />
Movement and BATU, the National Trades Union<br />
Congress is pleased to present Brother Tan Cheok Hua<br />
with the Veteran of Labour Award.<br />
