MEDAL OF COMMENDATION AWARD
Brother Liew Mun Leong is the Director of CapitaLand Group and
CapitaLand Hope Foundation, the Group’s philanthropic arm.

Example
Under his leadership as the President and Chief Executive Officer of
the CapitaLand Group from November 2000 to 31 December 2012,
the management had worked closely with the Singapore Industrial
and Services Employees’ Union (SISEU) to establish a detailed
re-employment policy. In support of the union’s initiatives, Brother
Mun Leong has extended the scope of representation to cover junior
executives under the collective agreement.
A firm believer that retrenchment is the last
resort, Brother Mun Leong ensured that the
company did not retrench any employees during
the 2009 recession. In fact, the management
team led by example by taking a wage cut while
the lower wage employees maintained their
regular income, thereby lowering operating
costs and saving jobs.
Working with SISEU and NTUC, CapitaLand introduced the On-site,
Bite-size (OSBS) training projects at malls, enabling employees of the
retail tenants to attend courses to improve the overall service standards
of the malls.
Brother Mun Leong believes in the importance of continuous training
and skills upgrade, and has ensured that sufficient funds are set aside
every year for employees to pursue skills-based training to keep up
with industry standards.
Under Brother Mun Leong’s directorship, the CapitaLand Hope
Foundation has made numerous donations to the Labour Movement to
help improve the livelihood of the lower wage workers in Singapore.
In recognition of his outstanding contributions, the National Trades
Union Congress is pleased to present Brother Liew Mun Leong with the
Medal of Commendation Award.
