Mohamad Yusoff Johari Nominated by Amalgamated Union of Public Employees COMRADE OF LABOUR AWARD Brother Mohamad Yusoff Johari has served as a member of the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) Staff Branch Committee for 11 years, with eight years as the Chairman. He has also served in the Executive Council of the Amalgamated Union of Public Employees (AUPE) for nine years in various capacities, as Executive Councillor, and currently as the Secretary. As Chairman of the MOM Staff Branch, Brother Yusoff has gathered committee members from different departments to listen to their concerns and grievances. He recognised each committee member’s strength, guided them to utilise their talents, and tapped on resources in organising activities and serving union members. Brother Yusoff is very keen on training and skills development. He constantly encourages his branch leaders and members to go for upgrading courses, and leads by example by completing Diploma courses in employment relations, leadership and human resource management. Brother Yusoff is known as a caring person and goes the extra mile to serve his members, such as making a home visit to a member who had a severe backache to better understand his situation, and assisting a member with financial difficulties through special arrangements with the AUPE Multi-purpose Co-operative. Brother Yusoff serves as an alternate member in the NTUC Workplace Safety & Health (WSH) Committee. WSH issues are very close to his heart as he comes from the ministry that deals daily with it. In recognition of his positive contributions to AUPE and fellow workers, the National Trades Union Congress is pleased to present Brother Mohamad Yusoff Johari with the Comrade of Labour Award. 87
NTUC May Day Awards 2013 Citations COMRADE OF LABOUR AWARD Mohamed Nasir Hussain Nominated by dnata Singapore Staff Union In1994, Brother Mohamed Nasir Hussain was nominated as a Delegate for Passenger Services to represent his colleagues in the department, looking after their welfare and grievances. Although he does not hold high educational qualifications, due to his hardworking, cheerful and helpful nature, he was encouraged by his colleagues to stay on and help manage Passenger Services, which was then known as the Elite Class. Through it all, Brother Mohamed Nasir continued with his union work and was given the opportunity to sit on the Executive Council. From then on, he has sat in various committees, such as the Bursary Committee and the Social Committee, as well as the NTUC Care and Share Committee. While Brother Mohamed Nasir was challenged in the election of Divisional Delegates for the 2009-2012 term, he won handsomely due to his good image and hard work. For the 2012-2016 term, he graciously agreed to step down and make way for other candidates. He remains ready and willing to come forward when called upon to serve, never shying away from any task. In recognition of his positive contributions to dnata Singapore Staff Union and fellow workers, the National Trades Union Congress is pleased to present Brother Mohamed Nasir Hussain with the Comrade of Labour Award.
