COMRADE OF LABOUR AWARD<br />
Brother Joseph Wang Kay Huat joined the Singapore Port<br />
Workers Union (SPWU) as a member in 1984. Elected as a<br />
union delegate in 1994, an Executive Council member in<br />
2000, and First Assistant General Secretary in 2010,<br />
he then stepped up to be the Second Deputy<br />
General Secretary in 2012, a position he has<br />
held to date.<br />
His commitment to work and the Labour<br />
Movement earns him the respect of both<br />
colleagues and superiors.<br />
As the Chairman of the Tanjong Pagar Terminal<br />
Division, Brother Joseph has led his team of<br />
delegates in highlighting workplace issues faced<br />
by fellow workers and works tirelessly to resolve<br />
them one at a time.<br />
Brother Joseph is a member of the union’s Industrial Relations<br />
Committee and the Chairman of the union’s Industrial Health &<br />
Safety Committee. He also served as an alternate member of the <strong>NTUC</strong><br />
Workplace Safety & Health Committee. As the Senior Operations Supervisor<br />
of PSA Singapore with vast experience in port operations, Brother Joseph<br />
contributed ground-up suggestions in raising the safety standard within the port.<br />
Brother Joseph was the Chairman of the Collective<br />
Agreement Team for the PSA-SPWU collective agreement<br />
renewal exercise in 2012. He won the hearts of members<br />
with his humble personality and consultative approach,<br />
and proved himself to be a good listener who takes in<br />
comments from members positively.<br />
In recognition of his positive contributions to SPWU and fellow workers, the National<br />
Trades Union Congress is pleased to present Brother Joseph Wang Kay Huat with<br />
the Comrade of Labour Award.<br />
