COMRADE OF LABOUR AWARD
Brother Joseph Wang Kay Huat joined the Singapore Port
Workers Union (SPWU) as a member in 1984. Elected as a
union delegate in 1994, an Executive Council member in
2000, and First Assistant General Secretary in 2010,
he then stepped up to be the Second Deputy
General Secretary in 2012, a position he has
held to date.
His commitment to work and the Labour
Movement earns him the respect of both
colleagues and superiors.
As the Chairman of the Tanjong Pagar Terminal
Division, Brother Joseph has led his team of
delegates in highlighting workplace issues faced
by fellow workers and works tirelessly to resolve
them one at a time.
Brother Joseph is a member of the union’s Industrial Relations
Committee and the Chairman of the union’s Industrial Health &
Safety Committee. He also served as an alternate member of the NTUC
Workplace Safety & Health Committee. As the Senior Operations Supervisor
of PSA Singapore with vast experience in port operations, Brother Joseph
contributed ground-up suggestions in raising the safety standard within the port.
Brother Joseph was the Chairman of the Collective
Agreement Team for the PSA-SPWU collective agreement
renewal exercise in 2012. He won the hearts of members
with his humble personality and consultative approach,
and proved himself to be a good listener who takes in
comments from members positively.
In recognition of his positive contributions to SPWU and fellow workers, the National
Trades Union Congress is pleased to present Brother Joseph Wang Kay Huat with
the Comrade of Labour Award.
