Crash data was sourced from the Department for Transport, Energy and Infrastructure for the period
between 2005 and 2010. This data was used to identify any abnormal trends or areas of high crash
incidents to assist in formulating the preferred traffic control treatments where necessary. An
assessment of this data is discussed in Section 3.5.
Traffic counts were carried out to record current traffic volumes and speeds on selected roads within the
study area.
The roads selected for data collection were based on the function of the road within the local traffic area.
The roads are considered to be collector roads distributing traffic allowing access to local residencies
and services.
Traffic classifiers were installed for a period of one week from 8 May 2010 to 14 May 2010, The data
provided information on speed, traffic composition, volume, and peak volumes of vehicles per day (vpd)
over 7 day period for the full 24 hours. This information was interrogated and identifies existing driver
behaviours, which encompass traffic volumes and speeds.
The following roads are defined as collector roads within the local traffic area:
