Road Geometry
Alawoona Road is located on the western side of Munno Para and extends for the entire length of the
suburb forming a linkage between northern and southern parts of the suburb. This road is wide and
straight and is conducive to high speeds. It has been voiced by the community the road is attractive
for “drag racing”. The bends in the road are a concern for residents who have raised safety concerns
due to the observed speeds which drivers negotiate these bends. Anti-social driving such as
doughnuts has also been observed and it is suggested they occur more commonly at the junctions of
adjoining roads with Alawoona Road. The long open straights and open space abutting the road can
give the feel of open wide space contributing to the higher speeds. Figure 14 highlights the open
space and straight section of road along Alawoona Road.
