Electromagnetic Testing Eddy current testing is just one of a group of teclmiques that as a whole are defined as the electromagnetic testing method. The sub disciplines or teclmiques listed within the method continue to expand. Following are the techniques that fall under this method at the time of publication: Method: Electromagnetic Testing Techniques: • alternating current field measurement, ACFM • eddy current testing, ECT • flux leakage testing, MFLT • remote field testing, RFT The borders are sometimes a little gray between one process and another. These techniques have been grouped in this fashion more on the basis of their specific market area or specialized applications in the field testing envirorunent rather than on a purely scientific basis. Electromagnetics is a very broad term. It covers a wide range of energy levels, sources and measurement tools. Charlie Chong/ Fion Zhang
Some other technologies that have been suggested to be included in electromagnetic testing are: • microwave systems, • superconducting quantum interference devices, • magneto-optical inspection devices, • flux leakage testing*.
