the stone <strong>ca</strong>irn was a central burial<br />

and the remains <strong>of</strong> a wooden<br />

structure. <strong>The</strong>re was a second<br />

inhumation to the north-east and five<br />

cremation pits to the south (D was a<br />

Collared Urn containing the ashes <strong>of</strong><br />

an adult and a teenager along with a<br />

horn-hilted bronze dagger). (b) <strong>The</strong><br />

crouched adult male skeleton in the<br />

central burial was accompanied by a<br />

group <strong>of</strong> grave goods below his feet.<br />

<strong>The</strong>se comprised a long-necked<br />

beaker, three bone spatulae, five<br />

coni<strong>ca</strong>l jet buttons, an unused flint<br />

dagger, a flint arrowhead or point,<br />

nine unused flint flakes, an amber<br />

ring, two ‘sponge-finger’ stones (one<br />

<strong>of</strong> chalk and one <strong>of</strong> Langdale rock), a<br />

reused stone wristguard and a boar’s<br />

tusk, (c) <strong>The</strong> crouched skeleton <strong>of</strong> an<br />

adult, probably male, north-east <strong>of</strong><br />

the central grave. <strong>The</strong> only grave<br />

good was a bone needle, placed above<br />

the head.<br />
