Supply cha<strong>in</strong> management<br />
Over <strong>the</strong> years, <strong>the</strong> major cha<strong>in</strong> retailers have adopted different strategies as to how to manage<br />
logistics through <strong>the</strong>ir bus<strong>in</strong>esses from po<strong>in</strong>t of delivery to back of store.<br />
Both major retailers <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Australian</strong> <strong>in</strong>dustry have announced efforts to take control of <strong>the</strong><br />
logistics costs from <strong>the</strong> supplier’s factory gate <strong>in</strong>to <strong>the</strong> back of <strong>the</strong> retail store, through respective<br />
central warehous<strong>in</strong>g systems. These <strong>in</strong>novations are planned to take significant costs out of <strong>the</strong><br />
value cha<strong>in</strong> – mostly <strong>the</strong> costs <strong>in</strong>curred by suppliers and <strong>the</strong>ir distributors <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> delivery of orders<br />
direct to store and <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> cartage from supermarket warehouse to store. Major retailers have<br />
<strong>in</strong>dicated that <strong>the</strong>y will seek a shar<strong>in</strong>g of cost sav<strong>in</strong>gs with suppliers.<br />
