Group A: Control – 1<br />

<strong>The</strong>y form a control group. <strong>The</strong> subjects will only collect urine, every 30<br />

minutes for measurements.<br />

Group B: Control – 2<br />

This also is a control group. <strong>The</strong> subjects will collect urine as others and will<br />

replace the fluid lost during the time by drinking water. 25 ml in excess of urinary<br />

output. (25 ml is to replace water lost by insensible perspiration).<br />

Group C: Frusemide<br />

<strong>The</strong> subject will receive an injection of fursemide (Lasyx) 20 mg.<br />

intramascularity after the first 30 minutes.<br />

Group D: 1 L Water – 1 dose<br />

<strong>The</strong> subject will drink one litre (1 L) of water after the first 30 minutes. <strong>The</strong>y<br />

must drink the water slowly and steadily in less than 15 minutes.<br />

Group E: 1 L water – 5 doses<br />

<strong>The</strong> subject will drink one litre (1L) of water in five installments; they will<br />

drink 200 ml every 30 minutes.<br />

Group F: 1 L Saline<br />

<strong>The</strong> subjects will drink one litre (1L) of isotonic saline after the first 30<br />

minutes. <strong>The</strong>y must drink the saline slowly and steadily in less than 15 minutes. <strong>The</strong>y<br />

should be careful not to provoke vomitish feeling.<br />

Group G: Dehydration<br />

<strong>The</strong> subjects are different from the others in that they should have prepared<br />

themselves 5 hours ahead in order to dehydrate themselves. On the previous day they<br />

are identified and instructed to consume moderate amounts of fluids with breakfast<br />

and to take nothing after 8 A.M. on the day of experiment.<br />
