A powerhouse of
cosmetic surgeons,
aesthetic practitioners,
dermatologists and
scientists descended
upon Melbourne in
April for the 2015
COSMETEX meeting.

Regenerative medicine and its potential to
fundamentally change the way in which cosmetic
practitioners and surgeons treat their patients was a
primary focus of COSMETEX15.
The three-day cosmetic medicine and surgery expo
kicked off on April 30 and was held at The Pullman Albert
Park Conference and Event Centre in Melbourne.
Academics, scientists, psychologists and cosmetic
medical practitioners from a range of disciplines
converged at COSMETEX15 to cover topics ranging from
beauty concepts across cultures to advances in facial
rejuvenation, cosmeceuticals, face lifting, dermal fillers,
tattoo removal, laser skin rejuvenation, body contouring
and lifting. Concepts such as the way people see
themselves, and the media’s role in shaping the “aesthetic
ideals” in today’s society, were also explored at the
2015 meeting.
‘Ongoing collaboration between researchers in the labs
and practitioners working in the field is vital for the advances
and broadening of applications. At COSMETEX15 we
will explore the hurdles, hopes and applications in both
regenerative and “rejuvenative” medicine,’ says Professor
Richard Boyd from Monash University who opened the
session on Stem Cells at COSMETEX15.
There were several “firsts” at this year’s event, including
the launch of new practice standards for aesthetic nurses
in Australia, as well as the introduction of a new laser and
IPL safety course.
