Degenerate<br />

Penny Ann and I have been an item for nearly<br />

eighteen months now. I know that on <strong>the</strong> face <strong>of</strong> it<br />

we seem an unlikely couple. Penny Ann is ra<strong>the</strong>r<br />

ref<strong>in</strong>ed and reserved, which is <strong>the</strong> complete anti<strong>the</strong>sis<br />

<strong>of</strong> yours truly.<br />

I am well aware that my reputation precedes<br />

me and that Pen’s closest chums counseled her <strong>to</strong><br />

give me a wide berth. I can’t say that I really blame<br />

<strong>the</strong>m as I suppose I have always reveled <strong>in</strong> my<br />

reputation as a degenerate.<br />

Actually I feel that degenerate might be a little<br />

harsh; secretly I prefer <strong>to</strong> consider myself <strong>to</strong> have<br />

liberal tendencies. However, I have k<strong>in</strong>d <strong>of</strong> embraced<br />

<strong>the</strong> notion <strong>of</strong> degeneracy s<strong>in</strong>ce <strong>the</strong> Grand Dame at<br />

one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> many schools that I attended felt <strong>the</strong> need<br />

<strong>to</strong> publicly denounce me as such <strong>in</strong> a crowded<br />

assembly hall.<br />

We have known each o<strong>the</strong>r for yonks, dat<strong>in</strong>g<br />

back <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> glorious days when we rode competitively<br />

aga<strong>in</strong>st each o<strong>the</strong>r and <strong>the</strong>n on <strong>the</strong> same national
