<strong>of</strong> be<strong>in</strong>g cynical but actually I just th<strong>in</strong>k that I have an<br />
<strong>in</strong>nately suspicious nature and I have sometimes<br />
suspected that Debs eng<strong>in</strong>eers many <strong>of</strong> her more<br />
calami<strong>to</strong>us situations for her own personal selfaggrandizement.<br />
Deborah naturally denies any such<br />
accusations and our disagreements have occasionally<br />
caused significant rifts <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> lute.<br />
At <strong>the</strong> end <strong>of</strong> last year when Mr Humphries<br />
was seek<strong>in</strong>g a successor <strong>to</strong> Lady Vic<strong>to</strong>ria he lobbied<br />
Jojo and I <strong>to</strong> fulfill <strong>the</strong> role <strong>of</strong> Red-shirt. For different<br />
reasons we both turned down <strong>the</strong> position and we<br />
both expressed <strong>the</strong> op<strong>in</strong>ion that despite Deborah’s fall<br />
from grace with Ms Law<strong>to</strong>n that we just assumed that<br />
would be forgotten and she would be <strong>the</strong> natural<br />
candidate. After all she is an unreasonably (and<br />
perhaps even unnaturally) gifted <strong>in</strong>dividual and it is<br />
actually her abundance <strong>of</strong> fatal flaws that make her<br />
so attractive and sometimes even endear<strong>in</strong>g.<br />
However, <strong>The</strong> Grand Master expla<strong>in</strong>ed that he feared<br />
that she would just be <strong>to</strong>o high ma<strong>in</strong>tenance and I<br />
have <strong>to</strong> say that I agreed with him. Eventually Lady<br />
Vix was persuaded <strong>to</strong> stay on for a second term even<br />
though she has <strong>of</strong>ficially f<strong>in</strong>ished her sentence.<br />
Despite <strong>the</strong> Grand Masters concerns Vic<strong>to</strong>ria<br />
lobbied for Debs <strong>to</strong> firstly be promoted <strong>to</strong> Capta<strong>in</strong> <strong>of</strong><br />
<strong>the</strong> Red House and <strong>the</strong>n subsequently as her Deputy.<br />
I am forced <strong>to</strong> admit that Debs has proved me<br />
wrong and has done a smash<strong>in</strong>g job <strong>in</strong> both roles, so<br />
I am more than happy <strong>to</strong> endorse her when <strong>the</strong> time<br />
comes. I just wish that she would s<strong>to</strong>p babbl<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> my<br />
ear about heart-rates and breath<strong>in</strong>g patterns.
