Co. Fermanagh in Northern Ireland,
and narrated a six part TV documentary
and songs in Ireland in the 1930s.
She now presents a concert of these
songs with percussionist Tom McFarland
Fil has toured extensively for the past
twenty years, as well as presenting her
own radio and TV shows.
A roots singer/songwriter/guitarist,
writing and performing folk, blues,
country, even pop and jazz influenced
Modeste’s music draws together the
traditional sounds of the central southern
part of Madagascar with some softer
South African dance rhythms.
Hugues is a pleasingly “smokey-toned
singer and a fine guitarist”, able to play
rhythm and lead all at once.
“He’s so effective in this musical sleight
of hand that audience members scan
the stage in search of a (non-existent)
second guitar player”
With Jude Abbott & Neil Fergusson
of Chumbawamba
Traditional and contemporary songs
and melodies. Features the writing of
Jo Freya and the late great Lal Waterson.
The trio create exquisite vocal harmonies
embellished with guitar, piano, saxes,
clarinets trumpet and euphonium.
“A wonderful palette of sounds...
the whole thing is a very satisfactory
listen and presented with great humour.
Jo Freya is truly an icon – her new trio
with Neil and Jude from Chumbawamba
was awesome last night. This was a
typical example of her skill, passion,
taste and perception. Neil and Jude were
also nothing short of fantastic!
Everyone should hear her work and
become a fan...like me!”
