Fil (pronounced Phil) Campbell, from
Co. Fermanagh in Northern Ireland,
sings traditional songs that she learned
as a child, has been writing songs
since her school days, and is a master
interpreter of songs.
Fil has recorded four CDs of original
and traditional songs and has written
and narrated a six part TV documentary
series, Songbirds, about the women
and songs in Ireland in the 1930s.
She now presents a concert of these
songs with percussionist Tom McFarland
and mandolin player Brendan Emmett.
Fil has toured extensively for the past
twenty years, as well as presenting her
own radio and TV shows.
A roots singer/songwriter/guitarist,
writing and performing folk, blues,
country, even pop and jazz influenced
songs and instrumentals played with
a sometimes sensitive, often dynamic
fingerpicking guitar style.
Appeared on TV, Radio, festivals,
concerts, folk and acoustic clubs.
Performed in Nashville, Music City USA
including the world famous songwriter’s
venue, The Bluebird Café.
In 2002, BBC Radio Wiltshire presented
an hour long special on his songwriting
and live performance for BBC Music Live
Day. He is also a very experienced festival
and concert emcee.

Modeste’s music draws together the
traditional sounds of the central southern
part of Madagascar with some softer
South African dance rhythms.
Hugues is a pleasingly “smokey-toned
singer and a fine guitarist”, able to play
rhythm and lead all at once.
