I grew up in Hertfordshire and began
learning guitar in my teens, before moving
to Norwich to play bass professionally.
I play many styles including pop, big
band, classical, rock, jazz and blues with
a wide variety of bands.
In 1999 my interest in guitar and
songwriting revived and, although I
am not much of a singer, my first solo
album, ‘Different Windows’, had some
nice reviews and soon sold out. I’ve now
completed most of the tracks for my
second album, ‘Healing’, a disparate
collection of songs and fingerpicking
guitar instrumentals.
I perform solo at festivals, clubs and
acoustic-style venues, and also teach both
guitar and bass guitar, mostly to adults
from the more mature age-groups.
Highly influenced by blues artists but
approaching things with a songwriting
sensibility, Vulnerable Things have created
a sound that is all their own.
With influences ranging from Tom Waits
and Black Keys to Dr. John and Ray
Charles, their eponymous debut album
has had radio play all over the world.
Live shows have been the bands staple
since forming 3 years ago. They form
a tight unit, taking on the blues from
a different angle and injecting a level
of soul and feeling rarely achieved by
contemporary artists.
Currently in residence at Charlotte St
Blues in London, they have performed
throughout the UK and supported Wilko
Johnson, Dr Feelgood and
The Blockheads.
Vulnerable Things are a band worth
talking about.
Pete has been a professional performer
since 1978. He started out purely as
a folk club/festival artist but when he
added storytelling to his repertoire he
found himself playing to a much wider
range of audiences.
Now he divides his time between the
folk and storytelling circuits and doing a
mixture of the two art forms in all kinds
of venues ranging from heritage sites to
village halls and arts centres.
Who is he like? Well, on the singing side
he gets lumped in alongside Martin
Carthy and Nic Jones and as regards
storytelling one reviewer said “like Robin
Williamson used to do.” Pete would also
mention Garrison Keillor and Dave Allen –
but with added music.
Deferred Sucess (intentional spelling
error!) are a 3-piece folk/punk/rock/
anything-goes band from the depths of
Essex consisting of Doozer, Chris Davison
and Richard Benfield.
Honest, infectious lyrics with exceptional
accompaniment on bass, guitars and
harmonica. DS has toured all over the
UK/Ireland and Europe as well as support
for Scouting for Girls, The Klaxons,
Get Cape Wear Cape Fly, Million Dead,
Bad Manners, Scroobius Pip, Pama
International and The Levellers.
The band pride themselves on their ability
and passion to play everywhere and
anywhere; car parks, squats, campfires,
festivals, back of vans, queues, the street,
the list goes on.
In a download world of media solitude,
DS like to give music back to the people.
