Scotland’s Folk Big Band
The Unusual Suspects are a phenomenon
all to themselves. “A beautiful noise.
A jigging, reeling juggernaut... brilliantly
arranged – the putative ‘Scottish National
Folk Orchestra’ walloped off the main
auditorium stage in sound waves that
thumped into your chest with the impact of
a benign piledriver” according to The Herald.
With a group ranging in numbers from
17 to 32, with fiddles, pipes, accordions,
harp, piano, guitars, voices, trumpets, sax
and trombone, drums, percussion and
bass, what more could you want from
an extravangantic big band such as the
Unusual Suspects.
“What a total, massive, glorious blast it
turned out to be... awesome power –
a harmonious, often uproarious dance
between full-throttle rampage and
orchestrated finess.”
– The Scotsman
