Flautist Rowland Sutherland has an<br />

international career in music. He regularly<br />

performs in non-Western groups,<br />

new music ensembles, jazz groups,<br />

symphony orchestras, pop outfits and as<br />

a soloist. Rowland’s experience in non-<br />

Western and jazz music has led him to<br />

work with US saxophonist/bass clarinetist<br />

David Murray; African master drummer<br />

Gaspar Lawal; the ‘Rebirth Brass Band’<br />

– New Orleans; Pops Mohamed, master<br />

percussionist – Southern Africa;<br />

Frank Wess, Ali Ryerson, Airto, Joyce,<br />

Dom Um Romao, Flora Purim and many<br />

others.<br />

Rowland’s Project ‘Creative Force’ six piece<br />

Caribbean influenced group, features Orphy<br />

Robinson on vibes. His ‘Rowland Sutherland<br />

Sextet’ plays jazz with Caribbean sounds.<br />

Rowland Sutherland’s Mistura, performs<br />

Brazilian music. Rowland’s quintet<br />

‘In Kimbe’ with Filomena Campus plays<br />

Mediterranean and Brazilian sounds.<br />

Stu Hanna and Debbie Hanna,<br />

the husband and wife duo Megson, are<br />

fast becoming “hot property”<br />

(The Guardian Jan 09) on the folk/roots<br />

scene. Their three albums have chronicled<br />

that blossoming talent.<br />

Formed in 2004 the couple have played<br />

across the country at folk clubs and<br />

festivals supporting bands like Show<br />

of Hands and Seth Lakeman and more<br />

recently selling out their own tours.<br />

Their talent was recognised with a<br />

nomination for Best Duo in the 2009 BBC<br />

Radio 2 <strong>Folk</strong> Awards. The Guardian gave<br />

their latest album ‘Take Yourself a Wife’ a<br />

4-star review followed by a major feature<br />

and the Independant has listed Megson in<br />

their 5 Gigs to See section on no less than<br />

three occasions.<br />

Dragonsfire, the vocal and multiinstrumental<br />

quartet, performs regularly<br />

throughout the United Kingdom and<br />

Europe, and past engagements have<br />

taken them to Canada, Scandinavia and<br />

the Middle East.<br />

The group has made several recordings,<br />

appeared on radio, television and in<br />

feature film, and they have composed<br />

and performed music for both radio and<br />

theatrical productions. Their performances<br />

are known for their unique blend of<br />

informal yet highly professional presentation,<br />

beautiful harmonies, haunting melodies,<br />

infectious fun, colourful costume and<br />

breathtaking versatility.<br />

They play a huge array of instruments<br />

and each musical item is arranged by<br />

a member of the group, ensuring their<br />

highly individual style which will appeal<br />

to all music lovers, including the nonspecialist<br />

Born in the Breacon Beacons,<br />

Welsh singer-songwriter Kate Westall grew<br />

up absorbing a large tradition of Welsh<br />

and World <strong>Music</strong> at Eisteddfods.<br />

Her career began at 16 singing for Swing/<br />

Jazz Big Band ‘The Skyliners’.<br />

Ever since, Kate has embraced many<br />

genres of music and lent her versatile<br />

voice to sing and co-write with a diverse<br />

mix of UK artists, DJs and producers.<br />

Since moving to London to further<br />

her music career, Kate developed her<br />

songwriting, collaborating with musicians<br />

of Celtic, Continental and Classical<br />

backgrounds.<br />

Kate’s band provide a unique acoustic<br />

sound flavoured with folk, soul, blues and<br />

rock. Topped with uplifting melodies and<br />

a purely beautiful voice, Kate Westall gives<br />
