In 2008 and 2009, <strong>Anheuser</strong>-<strong>Busch</strong> held approximately<br />
$280 million in capital investments in the<br />
United States. Significant investments included:<br />
• Installation of a new 24-oz. can line at the<br />
brewery in Fairfield, Calif.<br />
• Modernization of a bottling line and finishing<br />
cellars at the brewery in Baldwinsville, N.Y.<br />
• Modernization of the finishing cellars at<br />
breweries in Newark, N.J., Los Angeles and<br />
Jacksonville, Fla.<br />
• Creation of a Brewing Process Control Center<br />
in St. Louis, Mo.<br />
• Construction of a Leadership in Energy and<br />
Environmental Design (LEED)-certified<br />
wholesaler distribution center in Bronx, N.Y.<br />
• Modernization of brewing operations at<br />
the brewery in Houston, Texas.<br />
• Modernization of the packaging lines at<br />
the brewery in Columbus, Ohio.<br />
• <strong>Anheuser</strong>-<strong>Busch</strong> pays more than $3 billion<br />
annually in business and excise taxes, including:<br />
• $2.6 billion in state and federal excise taxes.<br />
• $500 million in other state and local taxes.<br />
• <strong>Anheuser</strong>-<strong>Busch</strong> employs more than<br />
18,000 people.<br />
Giving back<br />
In addition to investing in our facilities, we also<br />
invest in our communities, recognizing that<br />
giving back is a key element to a sustainable<br />
approach to our business.<br />
• <strong>Anheuser</strong>-<strong>Busch</strong> and the <strong>Anheuser</strong>-<strong>Busch</strong><br />
Foundation have donated more than<br />
$450 million to charitable organizations<br />
since 1997.<br />
• In 2008, the company donated $50,000<br />
to The BackStoppers, Inc., an organization<br />
dedicated to assisting the families of fallen<br />
emergency personnel in the St. Louis region.<br />
In 2009, the company, in partnership with its<br />
wholesalers and St. Louis community, donated<br />
$82,667 to the group at the Budweiser<br />
Guns ‘N Hoses boxing event.<br />
• <strong>Anheuser</strong>-<strong>Busch</strong> also gave $250,000 to<br />
become a founding sponsor of the National<br />
CARES Mentoring Movement in celebration<br />
of the birthday of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther<br />
King Jr. and “National Mentoring Month.”<br />
<strong>Anheuser</strong>-<strong>Busch</strong> and the Hispanic Scholarship<br />
Fund also teamed up with Major League<br />
Baseball and Major League Soccer to raise<br />
money for Latino scholarships.<br />
• In the area of disaster relief/preparedness, in<br />
2008, <strong>Anheuser</strong>-<strong>Busch</strong> donated $500,000<br />
(RMB 3.5 million) to the Chinese Red Cross to aid<br />
relief efforts for victims of the 7.9-magnitude<br />
earthquake that struck the Sichuan Province<br />
in Central China. The company also provided<br />
425,000 cases of fresh drinking water worth<br />
more than $1.1 million (RMB 7.7 million) to<br />
the area.<br />
• Also in the area of disaster relief, in 2008,<br />
the company and its wholesalers prepared<br />
32,250 cases — or 774,000 twelve-ounce<br />
cans — of drinking water to aid relief efforts<br />
in markets along the Gulf of Mexico in advance<br />
of Hurricane Gustav. After record flooding<br />
and tornadoes, we provided more than<br />
12,000 cases of drinking water to residents<br />
in a number of areas, including five Wisconsin<br />
cities; Cedar Valley, Iowa; Canton, Mo.; Quincy<br />
and Lawrenceville, Ill.; Clay County, West Va.;<br />
