Determine Weight and Size
UPS Ground and UPS Standard To Canada Shipments
Oversize 1, 2 and 3
Determine if Oversize 1, Oversize 2
or Oversize 3 rules apply to your
UPS Ground and UPS Standard To
Canada shipments.
Oversize 1
A package is considered “Oversize
1” (OS1) when its actual weight
is less than 30 pounds and its
combined length and girth exceeds
84 inches, and is equal to or less
than 108 inches.
For each OS1 package, the billable
weight is 30 pounds.
Oversize 2
A package is considered “Oversize
2” (OS2) when its actual weight
is less than 70 pounds and its
combined length and girth exceeds
108 inches, and is equal to or less
than 130 inches.
For each OS2 package, the billable
weight is 70 pounds.
Oversize 3
A UPS Ground package is considered
“Oversize 3” (OS3) when its
combined length and girth exceeds

A Large Package Surcharge will

A UPS Standard To Canada package
is considered OS3 when its combined
length and girth exceeds
130 inches, and combined length
and girth is equal to or less than
165 inches, and actual weight
is less than 150 pounds.
For each UPS Standard To Canada
OS3 package, the billable weight
is 150 pounds.
Large Package Surcharge
A Large Package Surcharge of $40
will be applied to all domestic UPS
Ground packages, including UPS
Hundredweight Service ® , when the
size of the package exceeds 130
inches in length and girth combined.
Length is the longest side
of a package or object.
Girth is the distance all the way
around the package or object
at its widest point perpendicular
to the length.
OS1 OS2 OS3/Large Package
GIRTH
Items Shipped in Bags
Shape – When multiple items
are shipped in a flexible container
(e.g., burlap or plastic bag), the
dimensional or oversize measurements
will be determined when the
exterior is at rest. As this shape
will differ from placement to placement,
cubic size or length and girth
measurements will be at the sole
discretion of UPS. For domestic and
international services, the billable
weight will be the greater of the
dimensional or oversize weight as
compared to the actual weight.
Tails – A tail on an item shipped
in a bag should be measured for
the amount of space it takes up in
a reasonably compressed fashion.
Any tail that is created by placing
an item in a bag must be compressed
and taped to the body of the item.
