So every morningand evening we take full advantage of it. We’re sleeping onstraw mattresses in a high-ceilinged room that is used forgymnastics. It’s tons of fun. The building is very big andbeautiful, arranged very spaciously. Earlier it belongedto the Dalcroze Dance Academy. Architecturally it isvery beautiful. The colors are very bright and harmonious,predominantly white and red. Only, some partsaren’t very practically built so that many rooms can’t beused at all, many big halls that used to be for gymnasticspractice. In one wing there’s a school for kindergartenand Hort teachers, a school for childcare workers, and akindergarten. The kindergarten is set up terribly nicely.It is supervised by one of the senior girls that I knowfrom Thale. Hellerau is way out in the woods, a kind ofsettlement with very pretty little houses.On Sunday we had the day to ourselves. We couldlook around the city and anything else we felt like. Firstwe visited all the notable places: the Zwinger Palace andcourtyard, and the Brühlsche Terrace, and so on–allinspiring to see. Dresden is really beautiful. At eleveno’clock we went to the Catholic royal cathedral rightnext to the castle for high mass. Considering that it is in89
