a n n iThe weather here has not been particularly inviting.For the first few days it wasn’t at all bright, only a thickfog. Yesterday evening there was a wonderful sunset.The elevation here is about 1500 feet and we have awonderful view.I just received Mama’s loving Sunday letter –thank youvery much. Already it’s almost Sunday again.On Sunday January 24 there will be a double wedding.On account of the recent death, the wedding will be celebratedin a very serious way. Because of this it will beespecially impressive.Life here is rich in variety and almost every day somethingnew happens. There are continually guests fromvarying backgrounds who are interested to learn aboutthe cause we are living for.Living together with the children is wonderful. Theyare very lively and very independent. If you do somethingspecial with them they are so excited and participateso enthusiastically. There are about fourteen schoolchildren, and a few older ones. There are eight kindergartenchildren. When the weather is somewhat niceat noon we go out. Behind the buildings is a little hill,the so-called Küppel. It is completely overgrown with128
a t t h e s p a r h o fjuniper, heather, and other bushes. Scattered betweenare several beautiful big beech trees. The Küppel is awonderful place to play. We build little huts and playhiding games. Unfortunately the last few days it has beenfoggy again, but the hoarfrost made everything outsidelook very beautiful (what we could see of it).For us the weather is pleasant as long as everything isfrozen. Otherwise everything gets terrifically dirty fromthe mud and slush since the yard isn’t paved yet.Everyone here is very friendly to me, especiallyEmi-Margret’s mother, but really everyone else as well.Emi-Margret and I get along very well, so I am very happyand feel quite at home already. Three of us are workingin the children’s house: in addition to Emi-Margret thereis also another nursery-school teacher, who is also verynice, and we work well together.Before I forget it: please send me my official notice ofdeparture from the mayor. I hadn’t thought of this at all.How are you all?
