Mapping the NetworkCreating a Child MapNow that you have created the parent map, you can create and populate“child” maps one level below the parent map. You will use DiscoverSubgroup on each child map to help you find devices.Discover Subgroup searches the network for any devices with IPaddresses in a specified range. When a device on the network hears itsIP address, it responds and appears on the map as a “discovered”device. A maximum of 50 Asanté hubs or other SNMP devices canappear on one map. Any devices over the maximum of 50 are notplaced on the map.To create a child map:12345Select one of the subgroups on the parent map.For the example, use Corporate Admin.Open the subgroup by double-clicking it.Select Discover Subgroup from the Configurationmenu. The Discover SubGroup window appears.Specify the IP addresses to be searched in the Begin IPaddress field and in the Last IP address field, respectively. For the example, assume that the devices in the CorporateAdmin workgroup fall within the range 193.205.56.00through 193.205.56.50.Specify the device types to be searched by using the popupmenu in the Device type field. The options are: All Asanté devices, All SNMP devices, AllIP devices (Windows NT 4.0 only), and Specific SNMPdevice.Since you have only Asanté hubs on the network with IPaddresses in the specified range, choose the All Asantédevices option. The Read community and Max devices fields canremain with their default values.Page 2-24
