20 H2020: The Challenge of ProvidingCyber SecurityUnder the vision of 2020 the challenges in cyber security are oftenthe result of technological gaps and a lack of the necessary knowledge,in different quarters of our technology-filled society. To address theseissues it is necessary to invest in research, and promote the resulting findings.In the rest of this section, we discuss the two different perspectives of thechallenges ahead, in the context of Horizon 2020.20.1 Industrial Perspective20.1.1 SummaryThe Trust and Security Unit at DG Connect held a workshop in July 2012focusing on Horizon 2020 [25]. The objective of this workshop was to brainstormon the challenges, technological gaps and necessary research directionsrelated to cyber security and the best suited instruments to implement thetasks. The outcome of the discussion is meant to be used as input to the widerdiscussion on the thematic orientations of cyber security research, developmentand innovation in H2020.20.1.2 Problems IdentifiedThe group of experts identified a number of challenges during a brainstormingsession:• “Addressing the needs and perspective of the user” Specifically interms of the usability of security products, perception of cyber security,education about and understanding of security issues, awarenessraising, and development of appropriate security policies.• “Building capabilities” That is, employing deterrence, building intelligence,sharing data and forming public-private partnerships.
