FOREWORD TO THE FIRST EDITION
The preparation of this directory has meant the active co-operation of many people within our great TR
movement, some entries have been formulated by the official club or register for that country, whilst others
have been compiled by the tremendous efforts of individuals and my sincere thanks go to all concerned.
The genesis of this directory is my own unfortunate experiences whilst travelling to the annual Euromeet, in
one instance, the 4A expired on the Autoroute near Dunkirk; we were recovered to the garage, who
probably knew less than I did about TR’s and after a battle with the garage saying ‘electrique’- and working
through my complete set of electrical spares - and me saying ‘essence’ we finally departed in a loan car –
what a way to attend a Euromeet!
If I had known then that the parts supplier ‘Angloparts’ were literally in the next village it is likely that a new
petrol pump could have been obtained and we would have wended our merry way to the ‘meet’ and not
suffered the indignity of arriving in a Eurobox.
This directory then has been compiled on the premise that we would rather drive our cars than see them
disappear into the haze on the back of the recovery vehicle; after all, to enjoy the car is why we took it in
the first place.
I know that all sensible people make sure that they are carrying ‘get you home’ insurance as a buffer
against such failure and the directory isn’t really designed to help serious problems such as a major
accident rendering the car undriveable, or a conn. rod sticking out of the side of the block; but isn’t it
annoying when the car has to be abandoned because some small but vital part has failed.
I must also point out that the directory is intended to be Europe-wide, in other words our TR friends in
Switzerland may have need of it whilst travelling in Italy, or our German Friends in France, or indeed our
European friends travelling in England. It’s not just for those from the UK who occasionally dip their toe into
the channel.
I sincerely hope that you, the reader, never have serious need to use this book in anger and that it may rest
in peace for ever in the glove compartment: However those in extremis should now turn to the notes on the
use of this directory contained on the following pages.
It is intended that the directory will be revised at some future date, should any garages etc be found which
are not entered in the directory, please e-mail office@tr-register.co.uk for the attention of the Breakdown
directory compiler.
