The UT-Methodist IntegratedCancer Services exists by combining all physician and technical assets todeliver an integrated Cancer Service Line in the entire Methodist HospitalSystem. Not just Methodist University and Methodist Le Bonheur but in theentire Methodist System. This will consolidate research and education acrossboth the UT Health Science Center and the Methodist System with regards tocancer. This consolidation will allow substantial improvement in cancer careand in the cost of cancer care. This consolidation streamlines both patientbased cancer research and patient based education. Cancer Services willbecome a single system for cancer clinical care, cancer research and cancereducation across the Health Science Center and the Methodist System. Themedical oncology of this venture will be provided by the West Clinic and thathe would speak more about their relationship with the Health Science Centerlater on in his presentation. All surgical services will be provided by the UTHealth Science Center through its adult practice arm, the UT Medial Group.That includes abdominal, surgical oncology, and neuro oncology. Allsurgical specialties will come from our practice group. Technical services willbe from the Methodist Healthcare Corporation and that includes all technicalservices that the physicians previously owned or operated. All imaging, allchemotherapy and radiation therapy will be provided by Methodist.The West Clinic brings to this equation a group of twenty medical oncologistsbased in Memphis, Tennessee. They form what is called a Physician ServicesAgreement (PSA) with the Methodist Hospital System to provide medicaloncology services throughout the Methodist Hospital System. West Clinicthen sells all imaging and chemotherapy facilities that they currently own oroperate to Methodist so that Methodist becomes the sole operator of alltechnical facilities. The West Clinic will then enter into an affiliationagreement with the UT Health Science Center to provide education forstudents, residents and fellows and then go forward as a UT Health ScienceCenter affiliated faculty practice plan rebranded and renamed like theiraffiliation with the University of Tennessee. The Health Science Center for itspart forms an affiliation agreement with West Clinic to become our officialoncology practice arm. Then we give the majority of them facultyappointments. However, since many of them already have part-time facultyappointments and this would move many of them into full-time facultypositions. We will amend our affiliation agreement with MethodistHealthcare in regard to Cancer Services to reflect the terms of the canceragreement. Then, through the UT Medical Group provide all of the surgicaloncology services for this arm. He then noted that it is substantial surgeryservices. The University then provides all the education and research forCancer Services throughout the entire Methodist Hospital System.1719
