Other comments: The most visible occupational groups in the informal economy are those who work on the streets or in open spaces. Not all informal workers are mired in poverty and some informal occupations can bring more revenue to work formally recognized. The general characteristics of the informal sector employment are the lack of protection in the event of non-­‐payment of wages, the compulsory overtime or extra shifts, the lay-­‐offs without notice or compensation, the unsafe working conditions and the absence of social benefits such as pensions, sick pay and health insurance. In every country, the informal economy is highly segmented by location of work, sector of the economy and employment status and, in addition, by social group and gender. Informal sector is highly feminized and linked to domestic work, prostitution, and agricultural labor.
