STRENGTHENPUBLIC-PRIVATESECTOR COORDINATIONPublic-private dialogue (PPD) isincreasingly regarded as a keycomponent for effective policyreform. 57 Through PPDs, reformsare defined, policy proposals areadopted, and trust between thepublic and private sector is built.Public and private actors worktogether to establish a shared visionand common set of priorities. WhilePPD is a promising practice forpromoting reform, women are oftenunderrepresented in such forums.Studies highlight that women’s lackof participation in public-privatedialogues is often because ofsocial norms, mobility restrictions,and underrepresentation inassociations. Social norms andexpectations that discouragewomen from mixing freely with menoften limit women’s participation inpublic-private dialogue. 58 Publicprivatepartnerships often emergewhen either the government reachesout to business associations orwhen associations lobby publicinstitutions. Associations providea vehicle for voicing concerns andperspectives on policy issues.Where women’s participation inassociations is low, they mayhave greater difficulty engaging inPPDs.STRATEGIEs1. Women entrepreneurs nowhave a channel through which to voice their concerns.
