to leverage the resources <strong>of</strong> the county <strong>of</strong>fice to provide on-going programs including nutritionclasses for students and workshops for families, a 4-H after-school program and Family “FunNights.”ResultsThe collaboration between West Virginia University <strong>Extension</strong> and the West Virginia Board <strong>of</strong>Education benefited both the students at Grandview Elementary as well as the state schoolsystem.Benefits to the students at Grandview Elementary1. Fewer students were referred to the principal’s <strong>of</strong>fice for disciplinary reasons.Baseline data, collected in the 2000/01 school year, showed that there were 250 disciplinereferrals to the <strong>of</strong>fice. Over the four years <strong>of</strong> implementation, disciplinary referrals steadilydecreased to 105 referrals. This is an overall decrease <strong>of</strong> 58%.
