Action Item 21:Submitted by:2008 Wisconsin Conference JournalResolution on the Discontinuance of the Lorain United MethodistChurch of Frederic, WisconsinCabinetWhereas Lorain United Methodist Church has been a faithful, life-giving church since1894, and held its 100 year celebration August 20, 1995; andWhereas people have come to know and experience God through the ministries ofworship, mission, study and fellowship in the Lorain United Methodist Church; andWhereas the sociology and the culture of the area have changed along with themobility of people and the aging of the church community; andWhereas a church conference of the Frederic St. Luke’s and Lorain congregation withonly the Lorain congregation voting by written ballot voted unanimously November13, 2007 to discontinue the church; andWhereas the Chippewa/Heartland District Committee on Church Location and Buildinghas approved the discontinuance, and Wisconsin Conference presiding Bishop LindaLee and the District Superintendents have consented to the discontinuance of LorainUnited Methodist Church; andWhereas pastoral care has been given to the members of Lorain United MethodistChurch and effort has been made to transfer membership to area United MethodistChurches; proper care has been given to the records and other legal and officialdocuments.THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Wisconsin Annual Conference of TheUnited Methodist Church meeting in the 39th session, June 8-11, 2008 at Middleton,Wisconsin, declares the Lorain United Methodist Church, Frederic, Wisconsindiscontinued as of December 31, 2007 and direct the Chippewa District Superintendentto be the officer of the conference to implement this action, andBE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the membership of the Lorain United MethodistChurch has until July 1, 2008 to dispose of all assets of the church and to have thechurch demolished with the exception of the windows and any furnishing of value.The windows and any of the furnishings of value will be offered back to the familieswho donated them in the building of the original church or sold at auction. The landwill be deeded to the adjacent Lorain Community Cemetery.
