—145Add r drop <strong>of</strong> solution <strong>of</strong> Bromide <strong>of</strong> Potassium (So grains to i oz. <strong>of</strong>water) for dark tones, increasing the exposure <strong>and</strong> amount <strong>of</strong> bromide forwarmer tones.Fixing.—After developing, wash well, <strong>and</strong> immerse ina clean fixingbath :Hyposulphite <strong>of</strong> Soda 3 ounces.Water i6 ,,<strong>The</strong> plates will be fixed very quickly, <strong>and</strong> should be left in till a minuteor two after they seem quite fixed.Clearing.—<strong>The</strong> transparencies after fixing <strong>and</strong> washing may beimmersed for 2 or 3 minutes in an acid solution. This is very necessarywith plates developed with ferrous-oxalate.Saturated solution <strong>of</strong> alum - - - - 10 ounces.Hydrochloric acid^ ounce.This willconsiderably improve the clearness.It is advisable to give the full exposure according to which developeryou use. For making transparencies for the re-production <strong>of</strong> negatives,chloride plates are particularly suitable, owing to the absence <strong>of</strong> grain, asthe chloride <strong>of</strong> silver is so finely divided in the film.Special care must be taken that no trace <strong>of</strong> hyposulphite soda comesin contact with the plates before or after exposure, as it is certain tocause stains. Separate dishes must be used for each operation, <strong>and</strong>should be kept alone for the purpose.COLOUREDSLIDES.Slide painting is an art entirely by itself <strong>and</strong> is not to be acquired bya few weeks' practice, or even years'.
