Greater Dublin Area Draft Transport Strategy 2011-2030

3.1 Drafting the strategy vision and objectivesAt the outset of the Strategy preparation processin late 2007, stakeholder Consultative Panels wereestablished and they were consulted on a draftStrategy vision and a set of high-level objectives.The draft vision and objectives were then put outto wider public consultation.The views of the Consultative Panels were soughtagain on transport-specific sub-objectives and theissues the Strategy should address (in April 2008)Following this, a six-week public and stakeholderconsultation took place.The stakeholder and public consultations identifieda need for the Strategy objectives to integratebetter with national objectives contained in theNational Spatial Strategy. They also resulted inidentifying a new high-level objective “to reducepersonal stress”, and identified transport relatedsub-objectives that would help meet this objective(for example more reliable journey times andmaking public transport easier to use).The Strategy Steering Group (comprising ofrepresentatives from relevant public bodies)and the DTO Steering Committee consideredconsultation feedback and the following vision andobjectives were agreed.3.2 Strategy visionThe agreed vision for the Strategy is as follows:Our vision for Dublin 2030 is for acompetitive, sustainable city-region with agood quality of life for all.3.3 Strategy objectivesFive overarching objectives were agreed forthe Strategy.Build and strengthen communitiesImprove economic competitivenessImprove the built environmentRespect and sustain the natural environmentReduce personal stressChapter 3: page 1 www.2030vision.ie
