38 38. Infanterie-Division (38th Infantry Division)The 38. Inf an terie-Di vision staff which was formed in Brittany,France, on July 7, 194-2, was trained and brought <strong>to</strong> full strength<strong>at</strong> Munster, Germany. In the l<strong>at</strong>ter part of July 19-42 the divisionwas transferred <strong>to</strong> Holland for training in coastal securityand close <strong>com</strong>b<strong>at</strong>, and in December 1942 it was sent <strong>to</strong> St.Nazaire,France. In l<strong>at</strong>e March 1943 the division was transferred <strong>to</strong> thesouthern sec<strong>to</strong>r of the eastern front and particip<strong>at</strong>ed in defen-sive engagements in the Artemovsk, Krasny Ionian, Izyum, Slavyansk,and Pavlograd areas <strong>to</strong> September 1943.
