52. Infanterie-Division -(52d Infantry Division) 115The 52. Infanterie-Division (2. Welle) was formed from reservistsin the summer of 1939. In June 1940 it-was in the Marne-Saone Canalarea of the western front. In June r 194-1 the division was transferredfrom the Dijon-Colmar area to the Lukow-Siedlce area in Poland. OnJune 22, 1941, it participated in the invasion of Russia in the vicinityof Brest-Litovsk and advanced in the central sector, viaSlonim, Baranovichi, Slutsk y Bobruisk, Rogachev, Rechitsa, Gomel,Mglin, Bryansk, and Zhizdra to the area east of Kaluga. From December1941 to December 1942 tha division took part in defensive actionswest of Kaluga, when it was transferred to the Bely area and participatedin defensive engagements in the Smolensk and Orsha areas, whereItemit suffered heavy losses, until December 1943., Formation of the52. Feldausbildungs-Division began on December 20, 1943, in theBaranovichi area from remnants of the 52. Infanterie-Division.Although no records of this division dated later than December•23, 1943, .are available, situation maps of Lage Ost and records •of OKH, Allgemeines Heeresamt (H 37/160), MR 1315, show that .the52, Feldausbildungs-Division was fully organized in the Glubo'koyearea by March 1944 and was redesignated as the 52. Sicherungs-Division on April 19, 1944.
