50. Infanterie-Division (50th Infantry Division) 107This division was formed in 1938 as Grenzkbmmandantur Kustrin(Kustrin Frontier Command). It particip<strong>at</strong>ed in the campaign • •against Poland in September 1939 and was reorganized as the 50.Inf ant eri e-Division between Oc<strong>to</strong>ber 25, 1939 and January 21,It <strong>to</strong>ok part in the western campaign in May and June 194-0. In thesummer of 194-0 the division was transferred from France <strong>to</strong> the Banoverarea, in the fall of th.3 same year <strong>to</strong> Pooen, and in December^194-0 <strong>to</strong> Liegnitz., Silesia, for winter training. On January 26,it entrained for movement <strong>to</strong> Rumania, and from there"marched <strong>to</strong> theBulgarian-Greek border for the campaign against Greece on April 6,194-1. After the Balkan campaign it was transferred from Salonika,Greece, <strong>to</strong> the Rumanian-Russian border for prepar<strong>at</strong>ion of the Rusrsian campaign where it fought continuously in the southern sec<strong>to</strong>r,!Itemthe Crimean-Peninsula, the b<strong>at</strong>tle of Sevas<strong>to</strong>pol, and in the Caucasusarea as far -as the Terek River. In 1943 it 'withdrew along the KubanRiver <strong>to</strong> the Taman Peninsula. In' December' 194-3 part of the divisionwas -transferred <strong>to</strong> the Kakhovka area on the Dnieper River and partbecame "Gruppe Sixt" which was ordered <strong>to</strong> the northern Crimea andfought'in the Armyansk area.
