The 32. Infanterie-Division was formed in Kolberg in 1934-35 by expansionof Infanterie-Regiment 4 of the old Reichsvehr and particip<strong>at</strong>edin the campaign in Poland in 1939 and in the West in 194-0.Beginning June 22, 1941, it fought in the eastern campaign, crossingLithuania via Mariampole and Kaunas. In July it entered Russianear Disna on the Dvina River and moved northward via Nevel, Novosokolniki,Kholm, Demyansk, and Valdai <strong>to</strong> Borovichi. In Novemberand December 194-1 it fought in the Borovichi, Lake Seliger, andValdai Heights areas. From January 194-2 <strong>to</strong> February 194-3 the division<strong>to</strong>ok part in position defense in the Demyansk pocket and fromItemla, Taktische Befehle fur A-, S- und SS-Fall. Infanterie-Division (32d Infantry Division) 67March through Oc<strong>to</strong>ber in the Staraya Russa area, then moved <strong>to</strong> theNovosokolniki-Nevel area, where it particip<strong>at</strong>ed in the b<strong>at</strong>tle forNevel from November 13, 1943, <strong>to</strong> January 4-, 1944. Although no<strong>records</strong> of this division d<strong>at</strong>ed l<strong>at</strong>er than December 31, 194-3, areavailable, situ<strong>at</strong>ion maps of Lage Ost show th<strong>at</strong> it defended theNevel, Polotsk, Sebezh, and Opochka areas from January <strong>to</strong> April1944, the Ostrov area from May <strong>to</strong> July, and the Madona area fromAugust <strong>to</strong> Oc<strong>to</strong>ber.
