38 38. Infanterie-Division (38th Infantry Division)The 38. Inf an terie-Di vision staff which was formed in Brittany,France, on July 7, 194-2, was trained and brought <strong>to</strong> full strength<strong>at</strong> Munster, Germany. In the l<strong>at</strong>ter part of July 19-42 the divisionwas transferred <strong>to</strong> Holland for training in coastal securityand close <strong>com</strong>b<strong>at</strong>, and in December 1942 it was sent <strong>to</strong> St.Nazaire,France. In l<strong>at</strong>e March 1943 the division was transferred <strong>to</strong> thesouthern sec<strong>to</strong>r of the eastern front and particip<strong>at</strong>ed in defen-sive engagements in the Artemovsk, Krasny Ionian, Izyum, Slavyansk,and Pavlograd areas <strong>to</strong> September 1943. Although no <strong>records</strong>of this division d<strong>at</strong>ed l<strong>at</strong>er than September 10, 194-3, areavailable, situ<strong>at</strong>ion maps of Lage Ost show th<strong>at</strong> it <strong>to</strong>ok part inthe defense of the Pavlograd., Zaporozhe, and Krivoi Rog areasuntil December 1943, when it was probably destroyed.ItemD<strong>at</strong>esItem No.Roll1st Framela, Kriegstagebuch 1, Text.
