AbsoodAbstract:Objectives To estimate the mean birth weight and length by gender among UAEnational newborn and the influence of some of the important prenatal maternal factorson birth weight.Subjects and Method A cross sectional survey was done using a structuredquestionnaire. Data were collected through files and interview of mothers at Al Ain,Tawam and Oasis Hospitals.Results A data of total 118 newborns were collected in 15 days. The mean weight was2951 gm, with SD of 371.5 gm and the mean length was 47.3 cm with SD of 0.218cm. These parameters were within the international standard ranges (2500-4000 gm)and (48-52) respectively. The following factors were found to influence the birthweight: mother’ age and education, diseases (DM and hypertension), attendance ofantenatal clinic and family income.Recommendation Establishment of health education programmes to improve the meanbirth weight of the UAE babies in those with low birth weight.
