OyejideAbstract:Objectives To describe the most common causes of mortality among adult males in AlAin district and to determine the association between the causes and age group.Methods Descriptive study using on data collected from the record of the preventivemedicine department by looking at death certificate for adult males above 15 years oldfor the year 1988 and 1993.An abstraction form was designed to collect relevantinformation. The information collected were age, nationality, religion, marital status,occupation and causes of death. Reported causes of death were reviewed and codedusing the WHO international classification of diseases.Results Majority of cases were older than 70 years (21.4%) and 30-39 years old group(20.8%).UAE and Oman nationals accounted for 50.1% of the total. 93% wereMoslems and 90.9% were married also 32% were workers. The main cause ofmortality were circulatory diseases (32%), injuries (27%) and neoplasm (13.1%).Conclusion This study shows that the non communicable diseases are the majorcauses of mortality among adult males in Al Ain followed by injuries. Also it confirmsthat young men are at higher risk of dying due to injuries and the main cause for thatis RTA.
