AbsoodAbstract:Objective To estimate the age at menarche in UAE girls, types of menstrual disordersand determine their associated factors.Design Cross-sectional survey.Method The study population comprised of 240 UAE women, selected at TawamHospital polyclinic.Results and Conclusions The mean age at menarche was 13.28 ±1.387 year. Thedistribution of age at menarche was not influenced by the socio-economic status,exercise, obesity and race. Most common menstrual disorders among UAE girls wereabdominal pain (55.8%), back pain (50.8%), breast pain (19.2%), nausea (16.3%)and breast fullness (16.3%). This study showed that the PMS among UAE girlsincluded only the physical symptoms (vomiting, breast pain and breast fullness), whilethe emotional symptoms were not reported among UAE girls. Emotional symptomswere reported during and after the menstrual bleeding. In less than 2% of studysubjects, symptoms persisted even after the cessation of menstrual bleeding. Inconclusion, abdominal pain, back pain, nausea, breast pain, and breast fullness aremost common menstrual disorders among UAE girls. There is no significant differencebetween menstrual disorders and age at menarche. This study showed significantdifferences in the irregularity of the menstruation in the first year after menarche andnow.
