ISAPE 2006Guilin, China, 26 - 29 October 2006The Seventh International Symposium on Antennas,Propagation, and Electromagnetic Theory (ISAPE) will beheld October 26-29, 2006, in Guilin, often referred to as oneof the most beautiful cities in China. This is a continuationof the series of meetings started in 2000, which came out ofthe combination of the former International Symposium onAntennas and Electromagnetic Theory (ISAE) and theInternational Symposium on Radiowave Propagation(ISRP), both sponsored by the Chinese Institute ofElectronics (CIE). The ISAPE2006 is sponsored by theCIE; is co-sponsored by the IEEE Beijing Section, the IEEBeijing Branch, and the China Committee for URSI; and istechnically co-sponsored by the IEEE Antennas andPropagation Society, the IEEE Geoscience and RemoteSensing Society (GRSS), and the Institute of Electronics,Information and Communication Engineers, Japan.Radio scientists and electrical engineers from allcountries are invited to submit papers and to participate inthe ISAPE2006. The working language for the symposiumis English. Papers are solicited in more than 45 specifictopical areas, under the broad topics of Antennas,Propagation, EM Theory, and Applications in these areas. The full list of topics is available on the symposium Website at http://www.cie-china.org/isape2006/. The deadlinefor submission of camera-ready papers is July 30, 2006.Submission instructions and a paper template are availableon the Web site; papers can be e-mailed to Donglin Su atsdl@buaa.edu.cnThe General Co-Chairs of the meeting are YipingWang (China) and W. Ross Stone (USA). The Chair of theProgram Committee is Donglin Su. Lin, Springer, ISBN 0-387-23997-9Advances in Electromagnetic Fields in LivingSystems, published by Springer since 1994, presents stateof-the-artdiscussions in electromagnetism that influencethe activities of living organisms. This focus affirmsSpringer’s commitment to publish important reviews to addto the scientific and professional literature-significantresearch that is larger in scope than journal articles.Advances in Electromagnetic Fields in LivingSystems, Volume 4 begins with fetal magnetocardiography(fMCG), a noninvasive method of detecting components ofthe magnetic field produced by the electrical activity of thefetal heart. fMCG is experiencing steady growth, and isexpected to gain influence in diagnosing certain congenitalfetal heart defects while at the same time providing optimalcare for patients. fMCG provides a distinct signal, free ofmaternal cardiac interference, which can be detectedthroughout the last half of pregnancy.Other Key Topics are: Noninvasive biomedicalapplication of non-ionizing electromagnetic energy,Microwave thermoelastic imaging uses microwave-pulseinducedthermoelastic pressure waves to form planar ortomografic images, Mechanisms of light-tissue interactionin the near infrared region and different types of instrumentsused for diffuse optical imaging, Advances in reliable laserdiodes and optical telemetry, ELF magnetic-field exposureand the pain system and Cyclotron resonance in enhancingthe sensitivity of biological systems to magnetic fields.Advances in Electromagnetic Fields in Living Systemswill be essential reading for all academics, bench scientists, and industry professionals wishing to take advantage of thelatest and greatest in this continuously emerging field.About the EditorDr. James C. Lin is Professor of Electrical Engineering,Professor of Bioengineering, and Professor of Physiologyand Biophysics at the University of Illinois, Chicago.Among other honors, Dr. Lin is a Fellow of IEEE, a Fellowof A.A.A.S, a Founding Fellow of AIMBE, and a recipientof the d’Arsonval Medal from the BioelectromagneticsSociety.TheRadio Science Bulletin No 313 (June, 2005) 87
