Sierra Instruments Instruction ManualSmartTrak ® 100 SeriesAppendix D: SmartTrak 100 High Pressure Version SafeUseThis appendix covers the safe use of the 100 Series High PressureController. In addition to this appendix, please read the entire SmartTrakinstruction manual carefully. General operation, display interface, PCsoftware and electrical installation are same as a standard SmartTrak 100Series Controller. The 100 Series Low Flow High Pressure Controller is rated to 5000 psig(345 barg) operating pressure and 7500 psig (517 barg) burst pressure(unless otherwise listed on the enclosure data label). Know the capacityof each specific model, as it will vary for specific gases and applications.CAUTION: The working pressure is stated on the flow controller label. Check label andprocess pressure before installing in the line. If the pressure values listed do not match thatof your application, the instrument should not be used. Consult the factory for the nextsteps.Pressure Supply / Start-upWhen applying pressure to the system, take care to avoid unnecessary pressure shocks inthe system, increasing pressure gradually up to the level of actual operating conditions.Follow standard practice for pressurized systems.High Pressure ApplicationsThe SmartTrak C100L-HP Mass Flow Controller can be used for a variety of flow rates, pressure drops, inlet pressures, and gas types. However, each unit must be tunedspecifically for each of these different applications. No MFC is universal, particularly atpressures above about 1500 psig (103 barg). These controllers are designed for use withpressures available from GSA standard, lower-pressure cylinders (some N2 cylinders go ashigh as about 6000 psig (414 barg)). NOT ALL C100L-HP can handle full gas cylinderpressure, depending on the gas. Gas properties for different gases are less alike undercompression than they tend to be near atmospheric pressures (10 barg or less), hence allpressure ratings are based on compressed Nitrogen, and many gases cannot be used withthe C100L-HP at 5000 psig (345 barg). Again, please consult the data label for the mostMFC-specific ratings, or consult the factory.WARNING: DO NOT operate this instrument in excess of the specifications.Failure to heed this warning can result in equipment damage, failure, seriousinjury or death.85
