EDIT—CKPOINT SubcommandEDIT—CKPOINT subcommand examplesExample 1: When the CKPOINT subcommand is issued without operands, EDITensures that all changes or modifications made up to this point are reflected in thework file. To do this, enter:CKPOINTorCKPExample 2: When the CKPOINT subcommand is issued with an operand value of1 to 9999, a checkpoint is taken immediately and at requested intervals specified bythe operand value until termination. To do this, enter:CKPOINT valueorCKPvalueExample 3: When interval checkpointing is in effect and you want to alter theactive value, reissue the CKPOINT subcommand inserting the new value like this:CKPOINT new_valueorCKPnew_valueExample 4: To terminate interval checkpoint, issue the CKPOINT subcommandwith a zero value. The entry is:CKPOINT 0orCKP 0EDIT—COPYsubcommandUse the COPY subcommand of EDIT to copy one or more records that exist in thedata set you are editing. The copy operation copies data from a source location to atarget location within the same data set and leaves the source data intact. Existinglines in the target area are shifted toward the end of the data set as required tomake room for the incoming data. No lines are lost. The target line cannot be within the source area, with the exception that the targetline (the first line of the target area) can overlap the last line of the source area.On completion of the copy operation, the current line pointer points to the lastcopied-to line, not to the last line shifted to make room in the target area.If you cause an attention interruption during the copy operation, the data set maybe only partially changed. As a check, list the affected part of the data set beforecontinuing. If COPY is entered without operands, the line pointed to by the current line pointeris copied into the current-line EDIT-default-increment location.94 z/OS V1R9.0 TSO/E Command Reference
