Around twenty museums and collections<br />

from Germany which have come together<br />

to form the Conference of National Cultural<br />

Institutions (KNK) presented a unique<br />

array of treasures from the spheres of art,<br />

nature and science in Poland. This exhibition<br />

project was motivated by the desire<br />

to provide a new impetus for scientific exchange<br />

and long-term collaboration<br />

between Polish and German institutions.<br />

National Art Museum of the Ukraine, Kiev<br />

To mark the 50th anniversary of the return<br />

of the graphic works, most of which<br />

had ended up in Kiev in the wake of the<br />

Second World War, the Kupferstich-Kabinett<br />

exhibited around 80 high-quality<br />

18th-century Venetian prints in the<br />

Ukrainian capital. The prints in the <strong>Dresden</strong><br />

collection came there from Venice in<br />

the first half of the 18th century or were<br />

created directly for and in <strong>Dresden</strong> by<br />

Venetian artists. The exhibition took place<br />

as part of the Festival of German Culture<br />

in the Ukraine.<br />

Museo Nacional del Prado, Madrid<br />

For the first time in 300 years major works<br />

of classical sculpture which were once<br />

held together in collections in Rome were<br />

reunited. Forty-six masterpieces from the<br />

<strong>Dresden</strong> antiquities collection were displayed<br />

in the halls of the Museo Nacional<br />

del Prado alongside works from the holdings<br />

of the Prado. The works on show are<br />

from the royal collections of Madrid and<br />

<strong>Dresden</strong> and are among the most significant<br />

collections of antiquities outside Italy.<br />

Together they are exemplary key works<br />

of Classical antiquity, ranging from the<br />

Greek Classical period to Late Roman art.<br />

An expanded version of the exhibition will<br />

be on display in <strong>Dresden</strong> in 2009.<br />
