LOOkiNg AhEAD TO sELECTED PROjECTs sChEDULED FOR 2010 • 450 Years of the Dresden Art Collections Jubilee exhibition, 2010 Four hundred and fifty years ago Elector August established his Kunst- und Wunderkammer (Art and Curio Chamber) in Dresden Palace, and it is this which laid the foundations for today’s Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden. This exhibition will show the fascinating starting point for the art collections, the spectrum of which ranges from natural objects to paintings, prints and treasury art. Setting out from this Kunstkammer in the year 1560, the exhibition will elucidate the history and development of the Dresden collections over the centuries – down to the present day. • Triumph der blauen Schwerter. Meißner Porzellan für Adel und Bürgertum 1710 – 1815 (Triumph of the Blue Swords. Meissen Porcelain for Aristocracy and Bourgeoisie 1710 – 1815) Exhibition by the Porzellansammlung, Dresden, Japanisches Palais: 8th May – 29th August 2010 Michel Victor Acier, The Good Mother, 1774, Porzellansammlung Japanisches Palais Albertinum • Zauber der Zerbrechlichkeit. Meisterwerke der europäischen Porzellankunst (The Fascination of Fragility. Masterpieces of European Porcelain Art) Exhibition by the Porzellansammlung, Berlin, Ephraim-Palais: 9th May – 29th August 2010 In 1710 August the Strong founded the first porcelain manufactory on European soil in Meissen, thus laying the basis for the »Myth of Meissen«. The Porzellansammlung of the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden is taking the 300th anniversary of the foundation of the manufactory as an opportunity to hold an exhibition focusing on its first 100 highly eventful years. At the same time, there will also be an exhibition of works of art by other European porcelain manufactories at the Ephraim-Palais in Berlin. • Die Kunst der Aufklärung (The Art of Enlightenment) Exhibition by the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin, the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden and the Bayerische Staatsgemäldesammlungen, Munich National Museum of China, Beijing: 2010, Duration: approx. 18 months In 2010 the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin, the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden and the Bayerische Staatsgemäldesammlungen, Munich, will be holding • their first long-term joint exhibition in parts of the newly built National Museum of China on Tiananmen Square in Beijing. The exhibition will open immediately after the completion of the museum, which will have a total floor area of 70,000 m2 . For the first time, the presentation will place the European Enlightenment in a universal context spanning all cultures and continents. Das neue Albertinum. Museum der Moderne (The New Albertinum. Museum of Modernity) When the new Albertinum opens its doors in June 2010, it will be possible to experience modern art in a scope that has never previously been possible in Dresden. In addition to the new, flood-proof workshop and storeroom complex, the innovative museum concept marks a new beginning for the presentation of art in Dresden. The focus will be on the holdings of the collections which are based in the Albertinum, the Galerie Neue Meister and the Skulpturensammlung, complemented by works from the Kupferstich-Kabinett and the Kunstgewerbemuseum. 85
