Some businesses are keen thatworkers feel that they belong to a family and are important to thebusiness. This is shown in larger organisations by the formation of aSocial or Sports club. Small businesses may have nights out or aspecial Christmas dinner.The next level is status – increasing the personal reputation of theworker. People need to feel that they are respected members of theworkforce. Giving workers a say in decision-making often increasestheir status. Other means include allowing training to a higher level,perhaps management training. For managers, perks such as a goodquality company car can show status.Self-actualisation, the highest level, means achieving the most that ispossible for the individual. People will set themselves aims and try andreach them. Employers can help their workers achieve this by providingtargets and opportunities for promotion.
