A node oftencorresponds to a physical server machine with an IP address assigned to it.The application server processes located on one node are managed by asingle node agent. On each node, there is local copy of the cell configurationrepository managed by a node agent. This repository may be modifiedthrough deployment manager during publish/activate configurationprocesses. The node agent also has access to the configuration repository ofeach process running on a node.► Cell is logical configuration concept that associates WebSphere server nodeswith one another. Administrators may freely define the cell according towhatever criteria they will take to group the servers (organizational aspects,application aspects, and so on). A cell is managed by one deploymentmanager process.► Node Agent is the administrative process that manages application serverprocesses on a single node. The Node Agent routes administrative requestsissued from the deployment manager to a particular application server. It is218 IBM WebSphere V5.0 Security Handbook
►purely an administration process participating in the network deploymentconfiguration and is not involved in serving applications.Deployment manager is an administrative process that controls processesand manages load balancing between the nodes connected to the cell.Administrative access to any node in a cell is governed by deploymentmanager processes. This means that the deployment manager hosts theadministrative console for entire cell.In the WebSphere Network Deployment configuration, one computer isdesignated to be central Deployment Manager.
