(2) The increment date of an employee promoted <strong>to</strong> a higher gradewill be <strong>the</strong> 1st day of <strong>the</strong> month in which <strong>the</strong> anniversary of <strong>the</strong>promotion occurs.22. ANNUAL WAGE SUPPLEMENTThe Polytechnic shall follow Civil Service‟s guidelines on <strong>the</strong> paymen<strong>to</strong>f Annual Wage Supplement (AWS). The AWS, if payable, shall bepaid in December.23. VARIABLE BONUSES(1) The Polytechnic‟s remuneration policy <strong>is</strong> <strong>to</strong> reward employeesaccording <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir job responsibilities and performance.(2) The Polytechnic shall pay its employees an Annual VariableComponent (AVC) or wage adjustment based on Civil Service‟sguidelines.(3) The Polytechnic shall follow <strong>the</strong> Civil Service‟s guidelines on <strong>the</strong>payment of Special Bonuses <strong>to</strong> employees, if any.(4) The Union recogn<strong>is</strong>es that <strong>the</strong> actual payment of <strong>the</strong>performance bonus <strong>to</strong> individual employees shall be at <strong>the</strong> fulld<strong>is</strong>cretion of <strong>the</strong> Polytechnic subject <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> following -(a) A new C+ and C- grades will be introduced. The ratingscale <strong>is</strong> A, B, C+, C, C-, D and E.(b) The base rate (i.e. for a „C‟ grade) will be increased so thatperformance-based pay will form a larger proportion of <strong>the</strong><strong>to</strong>tal compensation. In determining <strong>the</strong> base rate, <strong>the</strong>polytechnic will take in<strong>to</strong> consideration <strong>the</strong> assurancesgiven in <strong>the</strong> circulars and FAQs when <strong>the</strong> new salarystructure was communicated <strong>to</strong> staff covered in th<strong>is</strong>agreement.(c) The differentiation of rewards between „A‟ and „C‟performance will be sharpened and <strong>the</strong> variance increased.CA 75 of 2011 Page 11 of 61Ngee Ann Polytechnic Academic Staff Agreement, 2011ASCA( NC 290711)
