Towards this end, anexternal training services arm called the Continuing Education & TrainingAcademy (CET) has been set up to coordinate short courses developed by ouremployees.Our employees are therefore encouraged to conduct CET specialised shortcourses. Alternatively, they can seek approval to undertake outside teachingwork in courses organised by relevant professional bodies.(j)Undertaking Book Writing, CAI/CBL Course-wares, Multi-Media Packages,Software Packages, Product Design or Intervention Development WorkTo encourage our employees to undertake Books writing work, ComputerBased Learning (CBL), Computer Aided Instruction (CAI), Multi-media trainingpackages development, Product Design or Invention work, a set of guidelineson Rights and Royalties and Distribution of Software Products, Designs orInventions for Academic Staff has been drawn up.The guidelines provide clear criteria for determining ownership of intellectualproperty and a formula for distribution of royalties arising from commercialexploitation of such product/invention.Product Design and Invention work are also supported by schools which will actas incubator for the invention.(k)Links with Schools and IndustryOur employees especially Senior and Principal Lecturers are encouraged tomaintain strong liaison with the Schools and Industry. Schedule X(Cont'd)(m)Participation in Professional BodiesAnother way for our employees to enhance their professional standing is tohold office or participate in relevant professional bodies.To encourage more of our employees to take up professional bodymemberships or activities, the Polytechnic has devised a scheme in which ouremployees can apply for reimbursement of their annual subscription fees forone professional body (up to a cap of $300) if they show that they havebenefited professionally from the membership through participation in courses,events and activities.
