Schedule X(Cont'd)Besides <strong>the</strong> local Masters modular programmes, special<strong>is</strong>ed short courses,technical conferences and seminars organ<strong>is</strong>ed by local professional bodies arealso supported.Subject <strong>to</strong> availability of funds, NP will sponsor our academic staff for suchcourses.(b)Sponsorship <strong>to</strong> Undergo Local AttachmentsAll academic staffs are encouraged <strong>to</strong> undergo short local industrialattachments on a regular bas<strong>is</strong> <strong>to</strong> update <strong>the</strong>ir industrial experience and <strong>to</strong>keep <strong>the</strong>mselves abreast of <strong>the</strong> latest development in <strong>the</strong> local industry.To make it easy for employees <strong>to</strong> secure attachment placements, <strong>the</strong>polytechnic provides full-pay study leave for employees <strong>to</strong> go for suchattachments.If employees plan <strong>to</strong> undergo a local attachment, <strong>the</strong>y should first inform <strong>the</strong>irDirec<strong>to</strong>r of <strong>the</strong>ir plan indicating <strong>the</strong> tentative timing of <strong>the</strong> attachment andtraining objective. Th<strong>is</strong> will enable <strong>the</strong>ir Direc<strong>to</strong>r <strong>to</strong> fit <strong>the</strong> programme in <strong>the</strong>school's Staff Development Plan.Once in-principle approval <strong>is</strong> obtained from <strong>the</strong> Staff Development Committee,<strong>the</strong> employee may proceed <strong>to</strong> source for an attachment placement in <strong>the</strong>relevant industry. Once <strong>the</strong> attachment <strong>is</strong> secured, <strong>the</strong> employee shouldsubmit a final proposal <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> Direc<strong>to</strong>r for approval.(c)Back-<strong>to</strong>-Industry SchemeUnlike <strong>the</strong> local industrial attachment scheme, which <strong>is</strong> meant for trainingpurposes, <strong>the</strong> Back-<strong>to</strong>-Industry (BTI) scheme <strong>is</strong> meant <strong>to</strong> provide actual workingstints for employees back in <strong>the</strong> industry for at least 6 months <strong>to</strong> 1 year, <strong>to</strong> helpacademic staff remain relevant and sustain <strong>the</strong>ir long-term employability.Schools / Div<strong>is</strong>ion will seek <strong>to</strong> establ<strong>is</strong>h linkages with strategic industry partnersand get placements for <strong>the</strong> employees so as <strong>to</strong> retain our competitive edge.Companies participating in <strong>the</strong> BTI scheme will share part of <strong>the</strong> employeesalary as follows -CA 75 of 2011 Page 41 of 61Ngee Ann Polytechnic Academic Staff Agreement, 2011ASCA( NC 290711)
